About
From New Hampshire workshops to Tampa Bay jobsites — how Done by Design came to be.

Our story
Anthony DeFillipo grew up in New Hampshire and moved to Florida in 2010. He is a third generation carpenter who grew up building structures and furniture with his dad and brothers, anything from a shed to tables and chairs. They would even use wood from trees that they felled and mill it by hand.
He decided to further his education by going to Erwin Technical College for their Carpentry program. There he learned in depth the textbook knowledge and hands on skill for all things construction.

Our story
He took his knowledge and certifications and went straight into management at Honest Hammer Custom Builders LLC, a Tampa local General Contractor company. He started as a project manager and learned how to orchestrate a job with all different trades, providing quality work with a schedule that kept us ahead of deadlines.

Our story
The time came when Anthony wanted to take a step back and see what it was like for the everyday worker. He started working for KHS&S, the largest commercial drywall company in the United States. There he got used to the blue collar grind and honed his drywall install and finish skills. Helping build hospitals, car dealerships, etc., was a great experience.

Our story
Both companies were amazing to work for and learn from, but Anthony always had a dream of starting his own. “Done by Design” is the accumulation of everything Anthony has learned in his journey of developing the skill of craftsmanship. Now he’s focused on building this company to do what he loves and provide for his family.
“Done by Design” is a very intentional name. It comes from the knowledge that there is a Divine Creator Who handcrafted each and every person, and the amazing world and universe we see around us. When we create things, and in this case build houses and furniture, we get to emulate our Father in Heaven. Jesus was a carpenter, so it must have been a fun thing to do!
